Florence council discusses resuming economic development dept.

The Town Council will consider a fast-track economic development analysis of the town, at a cost of perhaps $25,000, in preparation for hiring a director and resurrecting the town’s economic development department.

The town doesn’t currently have a budget for an economic development director, and Town Manager Brent Billingsley recommended making the decision on whether to hire one during the annual budget process. A study would make the council’s visioning sessions “more useful,” and “puts us in a much better position of knowing who we want to hire,” he told the council. He will bring a proposal to the council at a future meeting.

Councilwoman Kristen Larsen asked about the town’s past economic development directors and why the position no longer exists.
