Help sought as city considers becoming International Dark Sky Community

Volunteers are needed for a new committee tasked with helping to prepare an application for Apache Junction to become an International Dark Sky Community.
Once the committee is formed, city staff are to do an inventory of light types in the municipality, the City Council decided Oct. 6.
“(M)ayor and council directed staff to move forward with the dark skies initiative, to form a committee and get the next step going, so I want to take this opportunity to encourage anybody — any private citizen, whether you applied for a board or you just want to contribute — to join that committee. And if you’re interested, you can get ahold of Bryant (Powell) or Larry (Kirch) and we get this ball rolling,” Councilmember Robert Schroeder said at the council’s Oct. 20 meeting.
