Maricopa has brought many services to its residents of late, and now has another recruiting tool for prospective businesses and residents.

Movoto Real Estate released a list of the Top 10 safest cities in Arizona this week, and Maricopa came in at No. 8. The list was based on FBI crime statistics from 2012.

Maricopa police chief Steve Stahl said the numbers reflect what are called “Type 1 crime,” which includes violent crimes and other serious offenses. According to Movoto, the statistics also include property crimes and the chance a resident will be the victim of a crime.

“I think it’s a credit to the citizens of Maricopa and their assistance [to us] and also a credit to the men and women of the police department,” Stahl said by phone Tuesday.
