FLORENCE — Former Pinal County sheriff candidate Kevin Cavanaugh has filed a notice of claim against Pinal County Attorney Lando Voyles, saying Voyles threatened him “with indictment” for having his campaign committee under an LLC and for being associated with a website critical of sheriff candidate Steve Henry.

A spokeswoman for Voyles declined to comment, but Henry called the allegations “silly.”

Henry, who is currently the chief deputy for Sheriff Paul Babeu, and Voyles are running together as a law and order team. Henry is viewed as Babeu’s hand-picked successor and Babeu is working on Henry’s campaign.

Babeu is not running for re-election, opting instead to seek the Republican nomination in a crowded field for the Congressional District 1 seat.
