Chief deputy wants chance to mend rift with supervisors

FLORENCE — When Steve Henry was recruited to be chief deputy at the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, he says it was a department with good people but not much else.

“I was just so frustrated with law enforcement in Pinal County because I’d been ill-served as a citizen,” said Henry, 55, a resident of the county since 1999 despite working for the Chandler Police Department up until his recruitment in 2009. “Staffing wasn’t what it should’ve been. Equipment was horrible. … It was an organization that was crying for leadership. That’s all it was.”
