CASA GRANDE — Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu’s recent warning of cartel assassins coming into central Arizona has been questioned by some of his Republican opponents in the 1st Congressional District primary race.

Former Lt. Col. Wendy Rogers issued a statement calling out Babeu to “come clean” with Pinal County residents and accused Babeu of mixing politics with his elected position in law enforcement.

Babeu held a press conference in Casa Grande last month during which he warned the public of cartel hit men coming up from Mexico and getting into violent skirmishes with rival drug carriers.
