Five running for three council seats, Thompson unopposed
Just weeks ago, it appeared with three city council openings and three turning in their packets, it would be an election with little fanfare. But as the deadline hit Wednesday night, the multiple filers ensured a race is certain.
Five council and one mayoral candidate made the Wednesday deadline for all candidates to file their petitions to the Coolidge City Clerk for the primary election on August 30.
There will definitely be a race for three seats and five candidates for city council, but for current mayor, Jon Thompson, no one decided to challenge him in his quest for a new term.
Current council members Jacque Hendrie-Henry, vice mayor, and Steve Hudson, whose seats are up, have submitted paperwork to get their names on the ballot for August.
Christopher Fox, a Casa Grande police officer who was an early filer, is joined by Kevin Todd, a paramedic with Southwest Ambulance, and Jimmy Walker, former commander with the Coolidge PD and 19-year veteran of the department, in the race with five candidates and only three open seats.
