apache junctionBudget Adopted in Apache Junction

APACHE JUNCTION — The Apache Junction City Council has given approval to the final city budget for the fiscal year of 2016-17.

The city council held a public hearing on the budget on Monday night, unanimously voting to approve the document, which can be seen at www.ajcity.net/budget. The council held its initial public hearing on the budget on May 16.

The budget is only slightly larger than last year but includes additional funding for:

  • Three replacement police patrol vehicles.
  • The construction and new operations for the planned downtown park.
  • Funding for the primary and general elections.
  • An increase in costs of the public safety personnel retirement system.
  • Improvements to the Paws and Claws Care Center parking lot, the popular Multigenerational Center and the Apache Junction Public Library.

The budget is modest as revenues have remained stable in the city over the last year but liabilities have increased. The proposed budget remained in line with priorities set by the council. These priorities include public safety, economic development and neighborhood beautification to continue progress in the city in light of continued economic challenges.

The budget is for the fiscal year that begins July 1.
