Water credits deal to change: Florence’s new agreement will make it money

A major annual expense related to the town’s groundwater savings has been turned into a profit, thanks to a new purchase and sales agreement for the town’s long-term storage credits.

The Town Council approved the agreement between the town and the Central Arizona Water Conservation District (CAWCD) at its Nov. 21 meeting. The council will be asked to approve a related agreement with the Tonopah Irrigation District at a future meeting.

Town Council member John Anderson complimented Town Manager Brent Billingsley on the new contract, adding, “It’s sort of a shame we didn’t do this before. This will really be an advantage to the town.”
