Families Sought to Partner with Habitat for Humanity

Partnering with Habitat for Humanity has allowed more than 1.75 million people around the world to go from tenant to homeowner. Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona is currently seeking families to experience this transition in Apache Junction.

Habitat for Humanity is committed to its mission of providing homes for qualified, hardworking families in need of decent affordable housing. The Habitat Renovation program restores, refurbishes, and returns purchased or donated substandard housing to the communities’ inventory of decent low income housing. Habitat is currently accepting applications.

“Homeownership is for everyone. We can give families who are willing to partner with us the security of a safe place to live and raise their children, even in these economic times,” said Maribel Saucedo, Family Services Director for Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona.

Housing is one of the most important means of wealth accumulation, especially for those with lower income since it provides equity and forced savings resulting from mortgage repayment. Partner families are selected based on their level of need, willingness to become partners in the program and ability to repay the no-profit, no-interest loan. Saucedo reiterates that Habitat is not a ‘giveaway’ program. Homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor into building their Habitat house and the homes of others.

Recipients can see average monthly mortgage payments of $650.00 with a zero interest mortgage, since the home is financed through Habitat. Habitat’s mortgage repayment success rate was 86 percent nationally and foreclosures were less than three percent per year.
