Bribery indictments lead to review of Johnson Utilities rates

In the wake of bribery indictments involving its former chairman, the Arizona Corporation Commission on Tuesday ordered a review of Johnson Utilities rates and operations.
The five-member commission ordered a separate inquiry into a policy change in 2013 that allowed Johnson and 27 other utilities to force customers to pay the personal income taxes owed by the utility owners.
Tuesday’s action stemmed from the recent four-count federal indictment of former Commissioner Gary Pierce, who served from 2007-14, including a stint as chairman.
