Maricopa court ordered to return $81,000 to city

Maricopa-Stanfield Justice Court has been ordered to return over $81,000 in funds that had been seized in 2014 during an investigation into the court’s questionable finances.

Thousands of dollars had gone missing from the court or was found to be in unsecured areas as auditors reviewed the finances of former Justice of the Peace Scott Sulley.

The judge later resigned and was disciplined by the Arizona Commission on Judicial Conduct. After the problems at Sulley’s court came to the surface in January 2014, the Pinal County Superior Court took jurisdiction over the Justice Court and froze a large amount of funds while an investigation was conducted.
