Food bank expansion project underway

[NEWS RELEASE] The Superstition Community Food Bank held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, February 10th, to begin a long-awaited expansion of its Idaho Rd facility. The expansion was spearheaded by former board members Bob Mohle and Georga Humphries in 2019 and is now able to move forward with the awarding of a $100,000 COVID-19 relief grant. 

According to Board President Phil Tremonti,  “The first phase of the expansion will be the addition of new refrigeration and freezer units that will quadruple our cold storage space. We’ve been maxed out with our cold storage capacity for some time and the food demands brought on by the pandemic have exacerbated the problem. We’ll be applying for additional COVID-19 grants to cover the total projected cost of $182,000. We’ll also be initiating a capital campaign for phase two of the project, which calls for a major addition and improvement to the current building and parking lot area estimated to cost $800,000.”
